APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY:
Generating Positive Change

with MAUREEN McKENNA & NANCY NIGHTINGALE

Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007.
(Earlybird fee: Tues. Sept. 18)
7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

Appreciative Inquiry is grounded in asking questions from a strength-based perspective, and envisioning the future in order to energize positive change. It is both a worldview and a process for change - a habit of mind, heart, and imagination that leads to learning and creativity. Unlike traditional problem solving that looks at what is wrong and forges solutions to fix problems, AI seeks what is good and vital - in a person, a situation or an organization. Particularly effective in turbulent and rapidly changing environments, AI builds a collaborative framework for creating a preferred future through the power of positive and engaging questions. Join us tonight to learn about and practise this powerful approach.

MAUREEN (MO) McKENNA, a partner inThe SuMo Experience (http://www.TheSumoExperience.com), focuses her organizational development and change management expertise on designing and facilitating conversations that build and SUstain MOmentum. With many years of hands-on management experience at Xerox Canada, Mo now consults to and trains numerous clients in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Reach her at Mo@TheSumoExperience.com.
NANCY NIGHTINGALE, M.Ed., a Secondary School Principal in the public education system, is an AI practitioner. She has first hand experience using Appreciative Inquiry in her school and the board to bring about positive change in organizational design and programming. Contact Nancy at nancy.nightingale@tdsb.on.ca.

ENNEAGRAM at WORK:
Communication, Feedback & Conflict

with HELEN PEACOCK

Fri. & Sat, Oct. 12 & 13, 2007.
(Earlybird fee: by Fri. Oct. 5)
6:45 pm to 9:45 pm & 10:00am to 4:30 pm
Introductory Session: Fri. Oct 12, 5:30 to 6:30pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

Are you able to communicate at work so that others truly understand what you mean to say? Can you give constructive feedback so that others do not feel defensive, but actually improve their performance? Can you manage conflict in a productive and respectful way? The Enneagram is a powerful system that enables profound insights into our motivations, beliefs, focus of attention, and habits of thinking and feeling. Use this knowledge to develop practical steps, specific to your Enneagram style, to relate more effectively with others. Enneagram styles differ from Myers-Briggs types in that you find your place on the Enneagram through your inner experience rather than your outer behaviour. This program is designed for people who are already familiar with their Enneagram style, and an Introductory Session is necessary for those who aren't.

HELEN PEACOCK, MSc, (www.Turning-Point-Intl.com) has been giving Enneagram teachings for over ten years and is the Past President of the International Enneagram Association. Her programs are always fascinating and popular. We are indeed fortunate to have her: she has studied with every major Enneagram author/teacher. Helen achieves extraordinary results for her corporate clients by applying her in-depth knowledge of the Enneagram motivational model to the areas of Leadership, Teambuilding and Change Management. Reach her at H.Peacock@Turning-Point-Intl.com.

(Earlybird fee: by Mon. Nov. 12)
10:00 am to 4:30 pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

Passion and creativity replacing your stresses and fears at work! Wouldn't it be wonderful...but how to do it? Join us as we tap into the 12 everyday psychological addictions, the root causes that might be depleting your mental and emotional energies and blocking your success at work. Some examples of issues you may discover include low self-esteem, fear of failure, lack of commitment, and the arising self-consciousness, jealousies, unhealthy competition, and lack of teamwork. Through this in depth process, your own diagnosis and insights will emerge. The resulting self-understanding and your new knowledge about your relationships will ground the action plan that you will then develop to help you break free from psychological blocks and lead you to a place of greater happiness, productivity, and fulfillment. This is a truly life-changing program.

MIND TOOLS:
Self Management at Work

with ANDREW BURNHAM

Tuesday Nov. 27, 2007.
(Earlybird fee: by Tues. Nov. 20)
7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

Do your buttons often get pushed? Do you ever wish you could remain calm and focused rather than agitated and negative when under pressure or with difficult people -- but find yourself doing the opposite? Mind Tools for Self Management applies very old thinking, for new times. Learn a simple yet powerful way to be more 'present', more in control in the moment. By changing the way you process what is happening, you can become more responsive and less reactive, focusing your attention on constructive action rather than inadvertently turning situations, change or people into "a problem". Tonight you will leave with new skills to use your old tools of awareness and attention.

ANDREW BURNHAM, (www.InTheMoment.com, www.ImprovAtWork.com) is best known as founder and principal of Improv at Work, grounded in his business education and work with Second City Toronto, and dedicated to improvisational thinking. While working in Canada, the US and Eastern Europe with front line staff and management in both the private and public sectors Andrew learned of the great need for people to handle anger more effectively at work. Drawing on his years of experience teaching mindfulness-based stress management, he created In The Moment and developed his Mind Tools program. Contact Andrew at Andrew@InTheMoment.com.

LISTENING WELL:
Finding Common Ground

with LESLIE ROSE

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008
(Earlybird fee: by Tues. Feb. 19)
7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

Effective listening helps build cooperation. Effective listening skills are an essential part of assertiveness and a caring work environment. As we learn to listen well, we judge less, understand more and we see the best in each other. When we are listening well, others make their point quickly and we are open to their ideas and considerate of our own. Together, as we become better at listening, we create a spiritual harmony in the workplace. During this seminar, we will examine how to mirror, paraphrase, ask good questions, give appreciation, add humour and find common ground. This seminar is for you regardless of whether you have attended a similar seminar. Let’s come together for an enjoyable evening and discover better ways to work well with others.

LESLIE ROSE (www.leslieroseseminars.com) has been a trainer, consultant and coach for over 25 years. His programs have been measured for long-term results and are consistently well received. THE BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT
OF A HEALTHY WORKPLACE

with LINDA LEWIS-DALY

Thursday, Mar. 27, 2008
(Earlybird fee: by Thurs. Mar. 20)
7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

Spirituality in the workplace is still a foreign concept in many organizations. Wellness and Human Resources professionals may shift uncomfortably in their chairs when asked about the "spirit" aspect of body-mind-spirit practices in their workplace. Yet, enlightened companies and leaders understand that employee well-being does not stop at physical, emotional and intellectual support. In this workshop, you will explore the dimensions and language of spirituality within an organizational setting, as well as the bottom-line benefits of an integrated, holistic approach to body-mind-spirit. Discover new ideas that you can take back to your own workplace, with examples of programs and practices embraced by TELUS Mobility and other enlightened workplaces.

LINDA LEWIS-DALY (www.lewisdaly.com) has earned much media attention for the TELUS program she developed as an employee there. Thanks to her leadership, Telus won the International Spirit at Work award for the integration of spiritual values in its Human Resources and Wellness programs, policies and practices. Now a workplace wellness consultant and facilitator, she takes this vision of a healthy workplace to other organizations and is also a part-time faculty member and advisor for the Centennial College Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion program. Her volunteer passions include being a 'survivor' spokesperson for the Heart & Stroke Foundation (cardiovascular health) and co-chair of the Sunnybrook Foundation's Run for Research (mental health). WORDS @ WORK:
The Creative Problem Solver

with CATHERINE GRAHAM

Saturday, Apr. 19, 2008.
(Earlybird fee: by Mon. Apr. 14)
10:00 am to 4:30 pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

At work we are challenged regularly to "think outside the box". How often do you try to do this, but with less success than you would like? Today, marvel over the experience of thinking through the box. Discover well-reasoned, adaptable and imaginative tools for problem solving with metaphors, transforming your challenges and releasing stress by using words and images. The result of creatively linking your left brain (analytical) and your right brain (imagistic) is insightful and practical information that emerges organically as you engage "whole brain" thinking. A past participant claims: "If you have half a mind to solve a problem, it's not enough! Catherine Graham's training has given us techniques to combine the strengths of both the analytical and the creative halves of our minds to develop innovative, lasting solutions."

CATHERINE GRAHAM, M.A (CatherineGraham.com & cmgcreativity.com) is the author of The Watch, Pupa and a forthcoming poetry collection (2008). Catherine teaches Elements of Poetry at Sheridan College and Creativity Tools for Strategic Thinkers and Creative Writing at the University of Toronto where she was nominated for an Excellence In Teaching Award. As creativity consultant, Catherine has led her unique workshops through BookExpo, Sobey School of Business, York University, GlaxoSmithKline and Environics Communications. Catherine's poems are featured in Discovery Landing in Burlington and she has been published in Descant, The New Quarterly, The Fiddlehead and Literary Review of Canada. Her work as a poetry coach is highlighted in Poet's Market 2007 and she is Vice President of Project Bookmark Canada, a non-profit organization that seeks to mark the real places that serve as the settings for imagined stories. You can reach Catherine at info@cmgcreativity.com.

YOUR WORK,YOUR LEGACY

with LINDA SOMERS

Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
7:30 to 9:30 pm
At the Toronto Grace, near Yonge & Bloor, Toronto

The dictionary defines legacy as a gift, something received and for posterity. What impact do you want to make, whether with clients, students, patients, fellow employees, or for your profession or society at large? What gifts and contributions do you want to leave for others and how do you want to be remembered? What strategies will leave a needed and significant imprint on your organization? Typically we neglect the long term implications of our behaviour at work and think only about the present and what we can do to be successful now. This short-term thinking short-changes us and others. In this workshop, we will explore how your contributions at work can be deliberately and consciously chosen for long term impact after you are gone.

LINDA SOMERS, M.Ed. (www.will-help.com) has been an organization effectiveness consultant for many years. She now works as a Legacy Coach to help her clients think strategically about the long term impact on others in both their personal and professional lives. She gives public presentations and workshops, tapes life stories for future generations and trains volunteers at a hospice to become Legacy Coaches. Reach Linda at Linda.Somers@rogers.com
